Research findings for NMT final project. (Final)

Current Situation

Website: http://www.spastic.org.sg/index.html

  • Web presence? Good? Bad?

The website itself is very bland, so it cannot be considered a good website. The homepage of the site does not attract enough attention for the viewers to take a better look at it. There is also no indication as to which button leads to which part of the site.

  • Effective? Practical?

Practical? It’s not even close to that. It took me, someone who had surfed the net for years, to figure out which button lead to which part of the site. What the site lacks most are social media tools like twitter, facebook and/or youtube. It also lacks update and required information about themselves.

  • Website up to date?

From what I can find by searching the whole of the website, I found that the last update was dated back to June 2009. This already tells that the website is not up to date.

  • Any updates?

There is no update since the one on their upcoming events, which was on June 6/7 2009.

  • Whats lacking?

The thing that is lacking in this website is the search bar. Many peoople who uses the internet are prone to using the search bar to easily find what they want. Without the search bar, no one except the web producer know where to search for the things they want to find out, like the contacts of the association, or the service of the association.

They also lack the details of their history, which is important in telling others more about themselves, what they do, or what is their goal.

  • Other similar org? Their success? Are there room for improvement?

Another similar website of the same caliber that I’ve found is http://www.thespasticcentre.org.au/default.asp. This website have a required search bar, making it easier for us, the users, to have a better time searching for related stuffs. They even have a section where they direct us to other websites that are up to date, keeping the website updated to the most recent events. As for improvements, it should have a side directory bar at the homepage so that the visitor of the site would take more interest in the site itself. Also they should have a search bar at the starting homepage of the website.

Literature Review: National Security

This is an article about the security concerning about new media from around the world, hacking and stealing of information through new media, and how serious the issues are.

There has been a significant increasing sign of usage of new media technology. However, due to the introduction of new media and access to it, along with the growing number of cyber-crimes, security concerns over new media have increased as well.

Internet frauds were also found to be increasing massively. An internet fraud is a dishonest misrepresentation of fact intended to induce another to do or refrain from doing something which causes loss. These are also known to include bank fraud, identity theft, extortion, and theft of classified information(Csonka, 2000)

Data, especially personal information about people, is stored on computers and the internet at financial institutions and government institutions. “Hackers can easily hack into people’s personal information through new media.”

Thieves, or terrorists, may steal a person’s identity and commit a crime. Later, the innocent person, whose identity was stolen will have to face the consequences instead, and will fall into trouble which may ruin his/her entire life. Thieves may also hack into someone’s bank account and transfer all the available funds in that account to his/her own account or may just use the hard-earned money available in that account to buy something. These are serious issues to be considered about new media.

This is also why we must be careful, especially when the server ask for our identity information. You never know that someone might use your personal information for their own beneficial uses.

I, Me, Myself…

When you guys look at me, how, or what, do you see me as? I don’t know, and I don’t really care. How others see me as is beyond me. I can’t force them to look at me the way I want, can I?

Maybe now I will re-introduce myself.

My name is Ng Qi Yi. You may call me Qiyi, or Qi.

My alias are: XDFool, Retard, RetardedFool, Nincompoop

Hobbies? Not much. My current hobbies are: Drawing(Swords/Fantasy weapons), Writing Stories, Collecting Mangas, Sleep, and Use Computer.

Goals? Why set your goal high in the first place? Why don’t set small goals and slowly climb up using them? That’s pretty much what I do.

What more do you want to know about me? Just ask. I’m not that hard to approach.

If you tell me “This is wrong.” I can only say, “It’s not wrong,” pause, “It’s not right either.”

Anyway, I’ll be very happy to know about more people and share some of my experiences with them.

Welcome!

Ya~h! Welcome to this weird-yet-funny-to-be blog.

Have fun seeing me changing this simple blog to something interesting. You know what I mean! So don’t get the wrong idea!
